Active learning-teaching strategies

Source: https://psychology.fas.harvard.edu

"Education must, be not only a transmission of culture but also a provider of alternative views of the world and a strengthener of the will to explore them."

Jerome Bruner

Constructive learning is not only about learning-teaching process of but aims at nurturing learners to become responsible citizens of the society. Along with reinventing the content, it has become important was us to reinvent ourselves. All our CIDTL sessions take place in classrooms, with circular or small group seating arrangements. Computer labs are used as and when required. Active learning  strategies are used wherein learners construct their own knowledge and create a shared knowledge base.
Let me share some excerpts from the reflections of our participants.

" Isn't it funny that though we all believe that the field of education is changing. role of teacher is not restricted to to someone who distributes knowledge nut that of a facilitator......we all need to change our mindset." Jahnvi Raut

"In my workplace I tried addressing the auditory learners by using discussions which went off well. ...I reflected upon how a quiz after a class might help all learners and also how a two hour class would not be boring with only the teacher talk dominating the class." Divya S

"Efforts sre on to read Blooms taxonomy gain and again; have known the difference between assessment and evaluation....this finally leads to planning and there is a continuous effort done by each one of us" Uma Chaudhary

Discover your unique learning style to uncover your unique teaching style!

The CIDTL program at MET is as much about self-awareness as it is about teaching-learning pedagogy for 3.0 learners. A journey into self helps one to become self-aware and thus makes us more receptive and aware of people around us. Through inventories of Multiple Intelligence and Learning Styles along with deep analysis of theories of learning, the participants are already on the path of self-analysis and ready to use their knowledge in the real world.  Ms. Shubadra already has started the process by relating Kolb’s learning style to the theories the group had already learnt in earlier sessions.

Need for continued education for teachers

Greetings!

The Saturday and the Monday batches are well immersed into the CIDTL program. Our constructive learning sessions have an eclectic mix of ideas from all the participants. In the Second session, Blended Learning was introduced through Hot-list of websites on the topic what is learning and how people learn. The session started with individual learning, and exchanged ideas in collaborative small groups. Each group presented their thoughts and ideas and addressed the queries. There after each learner wrote according to them “what is learning?” It was as much a learning session for me as it must have been for them!

Teacher Training - Need of the hour

Greetings!

The first session began with the learners going through the research paper by UNESCO on need of teacher training. It focused on 10 key points. Each learner was assigned 1 key point to read and reflect; thereafter they sat in small groups and discussed each key point in detail. This was followed by group presentations. We summarized the session with an interesting formative assessment in a form of graphic organizer.

CIDTL starts with a Bang!

Cambridge Diploma in Teaching and Learning

Training Web 3.0 Teachers

It has been an exciting experience for me to lead and facilitate practicing teachers for Cambridge Diploma in Teaching and Learning Program.(CIDTL) The first batch started on 22nd July and the response was so overwhelming that we started a second batch soon after from 30th July for teachers and practitioners who prefer weekday after work learning!

The enthusiasm of participants knows no bounds! The program has teachers from ICSE, State as well as International Boards. It is a pleasure to interact with diverse learners belonging to different levels right from pre-primary to high school teachers, from young fresh talent to teachers 2 months from retirement.

The participants bring in a medley of experience, knowledge and expertise to be shared and analysed which gives us an opportunity to create and transfer loads of knowledge. I will be sharing different active and inclusive learning strategies, I use while teaching and together we will reflect on their outcomes in the coming weeks.
